Maybelline Liner Definer Liquid Eyeliner

I don't know where to start with this. I already ranted here about this horrible little pen, but now I'm trying to write it down, I'm not sure where to start!

Ok, I'm a bit late to the 'felt tip liner' party. I've been admiring from afar, but as I don't really wear liner that much myself (and a product like this is quite useless in a pro kit) I've never really felt the need to run out & buy one.

But, I was browsing in Boots or Superdrug the other day (I can't even remember which!) and I spotted this one. Swatching it on the back of my hand, I was impressed by the clear, sharp black line it gave, skipped down the aisle & handed over my £6.50.

Once home, I was eager to give it a go and set up for filming a tutorial (which I had to abandon due to the complete and utter fail from this stupid pen). What happened? I'm not going to go on and on and on, preferring to summarise below...

The tip is rock solid and it 'stabs' into the lash line. To get any product actually onto the lid/lash line, you have to lie the pen on it's side, meaning you get an almost centimetre thick line, rather than the thinnest sleekest line as promised. It drags, tugs & pulls the eye lid. The actual liner is crap & dries patchy. It's difficult & stressful to use - trying not to stab yourself in the eye necessitates bathroom mirror gymnastics & not something I'm good at at 5.30 am getting ready on a Monday morning. It is, quite simply, down right pants.

Don't even get me started on it's name. Liner Definer Liquid Eyeliner? Seriously, someone was paid to come up with that??!!

I have not a single good thing to say about this (did I mention the very strong chemically smell?). I'm interested to hear your experiences!

Bright Lips - MAC Vegas Volt

For those of you not able to fully embrace the spring/summer '11 brights makeup look by whacking on some neon green onto your peepers, then here is a little video to help you out. Pick your favourite bright lippy, keep the skin & eyes fresh and et voila! Supermodel Chic without running the risk of looking like coco the clown...

I chose MAC Vegas Volt. I 'backed to MAC' for the first time last week (well, actually Ann from Girl in The City did it for me) and my reward was this little beauty, which has gone straight into my top 5 of all time lipsticks. I know, praise indeed!

Bronze/Gold Indian Inspired Eyes

I had the absolute pleasure of doing the hair & makeup for a bride having her indian/scottish wedding reception last night, following their traditional indian ceremonies in India a couple of weeks ago. I then had the pleasure of actually attending the wedding!

After spending a day surrounded by amazing jewellery, Saaris, food and beautiful women, I was completely inspired to do an 'indian inspired' look for my own makeup.

Not wanting it to look like I was trying to rock a culture that clearly wasn't mine, I just used a few touches; warm colours on the eye, dark brows and a nude lip. The sparkling effect from MAC Antique Gold reflects let me capture that deep golden look around my eye, without it being too over the top.

Fresh Faced & Bright Eyed Makeup Inspired by Kylie

Clearly I look nothing like Kylie, but I loved her makeup in the 'All The Lovers' video, so had a go at recreating it, for a fresh faced, more natural look for the new year after all the glitter and statement lips of the festive period...

stills from the video

I'm also not one to spend ages taking pics either, but everything seemed to be in place tonight to get a few snaps. Plus, my chores were done & I was just messing about...

And finally, editing the video which you can see here...

New Year's Eve Party Look inspired by YSL in Vogue

Isn't this picture gorgeous? It's for the Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick by YSL and flicking through this month's Vogue, it was this ad that caught my eye. I've used it as inspiration for my latest vid which you can see here but think I'll also be checking out the YSL counter tomorrow and see if I can get my hands on some sexy red lips!

Xmas/New Year Makeup Matte Eyes & MAC Rebel Lip

Hi lovelies,

Was getting a bit bored of having glitter all over my face & decided to do a matte look. Was also challenged on twitter to come up with a look using MAC Rebel Lipstick & here's what I did!

You can see the video here, but here's a quick break down of what I did...

Skin - MUFE HD Foundation, mixed with a smidge of MAC Face & Body in white, to lighten it slightly. Concealed under the eyes with MAC NW20 Select Cover Up.

Eyes - covered from lashes to brow with Brulee. Created an outer V & kept the crease super dark and defined (don't blend too much) using MAC Carbon. Defined the lashes with a very thin line of Clinique black gel liner. Loads of black mascara on top lashes only.

Brows - defined using Shu Uemura brow pencil, then darkened with MAC Carbon.

Cheeks - Illmasqua Nymph Blush & Chanel Bronze Universel to contour.

Lips - MAC Rebel Lipstick!

hope you like it!

A xx

Festive Red Lip: New Video!

Tonight's video is a really simple, clean & modern red lip. Perfect for the festive season, a christmas party or just for wearing about the house!

And I just wanted to show you... In the video I used Benefit's She Laq on my lips & eyebrows. The video was shot about 5 hours before the pic below and in the meantime I'd eaten lunch, drunk some milk and some kisses (!) and this lipstick has not budged!!

(scuse my glasses... I stabbed myself in the eye a few days ago with a 224 and still struggling to wear my lenses)

X Factor Copy Cat 'Katie Waissel' FOTD

Say what you like about her singing abilities (I'd probably agree!), but it can't be denied that Katie is one good looking chick and her make-up last weekend (excluding the martian hat) was awesome.

Tonight's vid is my attempt at a re-creation and/or inspired by her make-up during this performance.

Illamasqua Pixiwoo Tribute Kinda Thing...

If you follow Pixiwoo's Sam on Youtube or Twitter, you will know that she was recently asked by the Courtney Love to recreate a look from one of Illamasqua's campaigns. I absolutely adored the look Sam created and thought I'd give it a go. Pixiwoo gets a few of negative comments for some of the looks they do tutorials on not being 'wearable', which I think is nonsense. Make-up is meant to be fun, creative, whimsical, theatrical; why does every look have to be a day wear? What's the point in having a black lipstick if not to do something like this??!! Rant over....
My humble creation is below. If you want to watch the lovely Sam in action, click on the youtube link below or you can see Pixiwoo's Fashion Face TV blog by clicking on the link on my blogroll.
It'd be great to hear what you think!
